Question: How did the Romans manage to effectively combine their whole empire into one unit?

The Romans managed to effectively combine their whole empire into one unit and create political evolution by many things, but I think that the most important are things that have to do with economy and different parts of Rome teaming up. By createing roads, you are createing trade routs, and by createing trade routs you are allowing trade and improving the economy. A more direct approach to political evolution is having the different sides of the military working towards the same goal, which would speed up the prosses and create less violence.

Trade routs allow trade! Trade improves economy! With a good economy a big empire can efford a big change. The Roman empire's political opions throughout the empire caused a lot chaos. To create peace the empire would have to be able to afford it. Trade allows this.

Both militaries moving towards the same goal can improve the empire's peace. When different sides of a military disagree it creates violence and civil wars. By eliminating civil wars and some of the violence the Romans have taken the next step towards a one unit empire. Augustus helped create this Pax Romana or peace of Rome.
